These are all familiar terms and phrases describing characteristics of the right, and were originally used for that purpose. Instead of introspection or holding themselves accountable, upon hearing them, the right merely accommodated them. They see this as advantageously mudding the waters of discourse, and get a lot of mileage from and garner a lot of support in doing so.
There's more to it however. You know your ideology is dying when you're down to calling progressives right-wing things. The right's ideas and beliefs are generally repulsive to most of the public.
